In the past year, those of us here at the Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service have really had our work cut out for us.

Our mission is to engage and support Mississippians of all ages and backgrounds in service to their communities.  And we've been doing it for a decade.  Since August 2005 and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, that work has become even more crucial.

Take a look at the links on this page to find out more about how we're helping in the hurricane recovery effort -- and in areas that were less affected -- through our AmeriCorps, Learn and Serve America, and Disability Inclusion programs, and our Volunteer Centers.

Just as important, we make it a point to publicly honor those who have made a difference.  We coordinate the annual GIVE Awards (Governor's Initiative for Volunteer Excellence), and over the past decade we have presented over 100 awards to volunteers and organizations in recognition of outstanding contributions to the wellbeing of Mississippians.
